BIG MOVES THIS SEASON

The start of the 2013 PWA World Tour is just one month away and we see yet another big name signing with a brand underdog...
Perhaps that's a bit tough on RRD, afterall they did finish 3rd in the constructors championship last season. Nonetheless, we don't hear much from the RRD camp, so when Antoine Albeau signed with the brand for sure it was a shock for all. We're still waiting for the first feeback from the big Frenchman, especially with the latest evolution of the RRD X-Fire.
But now, with one month till the Italian World Cup, we see another big name in the form of wave legend Josh Angulo signing up with those dark matter guys.
“The vibe, the freshness , the excitment. My goodness it’s amazing how your whole excitment level and mental focus can change so dramatically when you get put into a group of motivated people. Basically the opportunity came up to align my talents and experience with Point-7 and as I delved into researching what the Point 7 philosophy and vision was about, I knew this was one of the coolest opportunities in my life and plus… have you seen how fast those guys are going on those black babies!”
...Having recently switched to slalom racing, and, finishing in a very respectable 9th place last year, it will be interesting to see how the big guy goes with the Point-7 engines...

So the wind never quite kicked in on Saturday, leaving the riders stranded ashore with nothing but pizza, beer and the Castle girls... it's a hard way to spend the afternoon, but the organisers have agreed to move the event to the next available weekend... we'll keep you posted.

Notice from SBSC: The Langebaan/Saldanha wind prediction is still looking very good for tomorrow, so the guys will be at the club from 11am to handle registration. They are expecting to start promptly at 2pm and plan to finish all racing on Saturday... there will be no racing on Sunday due to the poor wind prediction.

We're really stoked to hear that SBSC have invited us back to their neck of the woods for an end-of-season racing weekend... those who were there two season's back will remember how great the venue is for slalom. The club is looking to run a mix of shorter slalom and long distance races around the bay. The first race is scheduled to start from 14h00 Saturday 17 March, with more on Sunday if the wind plays along. We're also invited to stay the night and enjoy the hospitality of the Beach Sailing Club. THULE has been super cool to put up some prizes. All we have to cough up is R30 to pay for rescue boat expenses... easy!

March toward the Thunder. Masters & Blasters 04 March.

The final round of the 2011/12 Masters and Blasters will be held tomorrow afternoon at MAC, starting at 14h00. The winds are expected to be light, 15 - 19 kts which does meet our minimum wind requirements and light wind racing is always enjoyable. Keep a close eye on the wind and lets hope it comes through for us. March is a busy time at MAC with our next opportunity only coming up in April.
Let us be positive, we will have enough wind and you will have that last chance to make a difference to your score. This one is called March toward the thunder. The thunderous applause you will receive when it becomes clear that you are the 2011/12 champion. Good luck to everyone and here's hoping to see you all on Sunday afternoon 04 March for some light wind racing.

Point-7 sails shake things up this summer

After making a rather quiet appearance on the SA scene, we take a look at one of the latest brands to hit our shores this summer... we're talking, of course, about the super racy looking Point-7 sails that are near impossible to miss on the water.
The striking black sails are everything you'd expect from something coming out of Italy; bold, stylish and huge attention to detail and quality. The brand not only became an official PWA corporate member this last season, it also debuted on our local WSA Tour with local MAC racer SA-411 (... and if Steve could just learn to gybe he might actually win a few more races). None-the-less, Point-7 SA have given us some great mid-season specials, including the current AC-X no-cam sail taking over Bronkhorstspruit Dam, the Sado power wave sail, and the next generation 2012 down-the-line wave sail, the Swell 2G... check out these amazing specials here. WSA Tour Langebaan 2012

With a lack of wind on the first two days there wasn't much to do except enjoy a bit of west coast R&R. For most of us this meant Friday Isalnd breakfast to start the day, Pearly's pizza for lunch, Cape Sports Center braai for dinner, and 'breakfast' again at ZeeZee's at some ridiculous hour of the morning. The PE boys once again made their mark on the town by being the only people asked to leave the club, the only rasta man to steal all the girls and get punched in the face for it, and the only dudes to take home a Mamba girl (they didn't notice she was made of cardboard)... at least we can still come back next year...

This is our fourth attempt for the second round of Masters & Blasters slalom racing at Milnerton Aquatic Club.
The Guru has once again assured us of good winds, but can he be trusted? If not then we have Sunday 22 Jan as an alternative. Start time is 11am, min wind 15 kts. Everyone is welcome to take part.
