Description:
Under construction - this secret spot off Robben Island is well worth discovering.
Rigging Area:
None – you have to rig at Small Bay parking lot, or Big Bay and sail across the bay to Robben Island.
Wind Conditions:
SE: Port Tack
In season, it will often only start to blow at around 3pm. Often the SE can be howling at the Dumps, Milnerton, and even Sunset Beach, but won't have come
through at Bloubergstrand.
NW: Starboard Tack
usually far better down south. The wind churns up the sea, and it can be slightly onshore, making matters worse.
Wave Conditions:
The is almost always a wave to found here, although not often big. The swell tends to build up very far out, and as the waves wrap around the island, they diminish and move on towards Big Bay and the Steens
Risks:
This is not to be attempted by the inexperienced, the unfit or the faint hearted. Watch out for the wind shadow, and bear in mind that you could be blown out to sea. It is imperative that you have friends who will notify the NSRI if you aren't back by a certain time. In addition, you must have someone who has a flare, and advisably water, some food, e.g. chocolate, etc.
