St Francis Mouth can be sailed in either a SE to a E, or perfect W. SE to E is by far the best as it is onshore and not gusty at all. The W however is very gusty but is generally a bit stronger than the onshore winds. Onshore winds usually only blow in the Summer months and then die down in winter. When Sailing at the mouth there is a small grass area for rigging but most people just rig on the sand when there is still enough space at low tide. when the tide is at its highest, the water is about waist depth on average. The run is between 300m and 500m. Beginners should be quite careful when crossing the mouth area as it can be very choppy the current is very strong when the tide is coming in. If you fall here and you can't waterstart quickly you can be taken quite far down the river. In onshore winds it is very flat because of the sand bank that shelters the surface of the water. But in the W wind it can become very choppy which is good for jumping, etc.

For pictures and a basic guide of the Mouth click on Spot Guide Photo's and go to St Francis Bay. (Right side of this page.)

If someone can give the lowdown on wavesailing in St Francis bay please add to this page!
