Description: Sunset was opened around the ‘94 season, formerly access was by a dirt road. This is a favourite hangout for Euro’s, so if you want some continental flair, go and sail at Sunset.

Rigging Area: You can rig in the parking lot, and then carry your rig  down to the beach.

Wind Conditions: Generally, the wind is stronger at Sunset than at Bloubergstrand - and if it’s not blowing at Blouberg, it could well be blowing here. If you get here and the place is completely blown out, you might be well advised to head to Big Bay or north, where you could have a far more relaxed session.

SE: Port Tack

The South Easter has become very gusty and eratic on the inside, due to the massive amount of construction at Sunset Beach and the Sunset Links residential golf estate. Watch out for massive crunching waves and complete lack of wind as you desperately try to bail on your bottom turns!

NW: Starboard Tack

In 2003, the north wester managed to wash up a massive container vessel, the Maersk Sealand Express. The waves I saw that day were a sight to behold. If the wind is clean and strong here, and the waves big, Sunset can be an epic spot.

Wave Conditions: There is often a large, well formed wave, which breaks fairly close to the shore. It is an excellent wave to sail frontside to, and most sailors bear off to the left once they’re on the wave (so beware, beginners!)

Additional Information: The beach can be quite stony, so make sure that your board and rig aren’t lying on any potentially damaging stones when you leave them lying on the beach.

Directions: Get to the Dumps Robot. Then, drive north., past Woodbridge Island, through the next robot. At the Engen Garage, turn left to Sunset Beach. At the T-junction, you can go left to get to Sunset 1 and 2, or right to get to Sunset 3. Easy.
