Victoria Lake
Victoria Lake (10 km from central Johannesburg)

General

No camping is permitted.
Sailing has been restricted to VLC members only (poles restrict access
to shores).
Good dam for beginners and intermediate sailors, a lot can be learnt here.

Prevailing Wind Conditions

Predominately NW. This direction is gusty as it comes over trees and
some buildings before hitting the water. The gusts seldom cover the
entire dam but can be very strong.
Easterly wind at this lake is very gusty owing to blocks of flats
obscuring most of the wind.
Westerly is not a common wind, usually occuring with the on set of cold
fronts or storms, but it offers the cleanest wind and even gets
channeled up the length of the dam.

Directions

From Johannesburg, take M2 East highway until its end (10-15 minutes
travel)
Turn right at T-junction (Hyundai Junction).
Drive past Rand Refinery and Simmerpan (on right), 5 robots.
Dam will be on your right hand side.
The best launch site is from the King Fisher restuarant.
