Zandvlei (Muizenberg)
Wind map entry: http://thewindmap.com/wiki/index.php/Sandvlei-Africa
Description: This is a great place to work on your gybes, or to learn how to waterstart, as the water is quite shallow, especially on the far bank, where you can stand in the water. Those sailors used to the long endless runs of the sea might find Zandvlei a very frustrating sailing spot, as the runs are very, very short.
Rigging Area: There is a large grassed area, but it is a bit sandy in patches.
Wind Conditions: The SE can come through quite strongly
Wave Conditions: None whatsoever, apart from the occasional bit of chop. Additional Information: Watch out for broken glass, in and out of the water. The launch is difficult, because you have to get into the water off a high bank; be careful when putting your board into the water.
Directions: Take De Waal Drive (the M3) from Cape Town, past UCT, and follow the road for about 15 kms, till you get to the end of the highway. At the stop sign, turn left, to Muizenberg, and drive until you get to the robots; turn right here, and then go left at the level crossing. Drive until you reach a T-Junction, with the lake ahead of you; turn left and immediately right again into the parking lot - this is Zandvlei.
