Welcome to the home of the WSA National Tour
The WSA Tour is the official national windsurfing series in South Africa. The aim of the Tour is to establish a series of national events that will ultimately determine the best windsurfers in South Africa. Currently the Tour is competed in three disciplines;
· WAVE: the true spirit of windsurfing, where a rider can demonstrate his power, aggression and creativity in two of the most powerful forces in nature – wind and waves.
· SLALOM: the high speed course racing division that puts rider against rider in a test of skill, speed and stamina.
· SPEED: the one and only test of a rider’s ability at converting wind energy into forward momentum to produce the highest possible speeds on water.
The country is split into four basic regions; the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu/Natal and the Inland provinces. Each region hosts a round of the Tour at the time of year that gives the best possible conditions. The first round is hosted by the Inland provinces and kicks off in September at Sterkfontein Dam. The Tour then ships straight to Port Elizabeth for round two. Durban will play host to round three in November, with Cape Town hosting the fourth and final round.
New to the Tour this year is the introduction of the equipment 42 rule and wind minimum criteria. For each discipline, riders will be required to register a maximum of 4 sails and 2 boards which they will be required to use for the season. To help the riders with their equipment selection, WSA has issued a wind minimum of 12 knots be maintained for slalom racing, and, “good windsurfing conditions” in the case of wave.
