Thanks to Ben Van Der Steen who held a windsurfing clinic at MAC on Saturday 6 March. We had about 40 MAC windsurfing members attend the clinic and everyone was amazed at Ben’s knowledge of the sport. Ben started with rigging the new Neil Pryde race sails and showed us all the tricks of the trade. Explaining the sail shape and options for different wind conditions. Next he rigged a Neil Pryde wave sail, again showing us how to optimise a sail depending on conditions. He then brought out two of his latest JP slalom boards and explained some of the finer points of board shapes. We learned how to set our harness lines, choose the correct fin size, mast track settings. Ben also gave us some insight into the PWA, how it works and what the life of a competitive windsurfer was all about. As an ambassador of the sport, Ben Van Der Steen is an awesome inspiration and all of us at MAC wish him well for the 2010 season. (Also thanks to Waggy for making it happen.) |
