Hi.
I'm a Kite-surfer and a surfer and local to the Blouberg area.
I see the problems that windsurfers have against Kiters all the time and visa versa.
Last night I went to sunset beach and there must have been about 150 windsurfers there. It was amazing up to a certain point.
The wind was gusty and I am relatively new to the kiting sport. I launched and had a problem with my foot-strap on my board and was getting ready to launch when the unfortunate happened and the wind dropped and my kite fell out of the air. Some windsurfer guy was at this time walking in to the ocean JUST downwind of me.
So the event of happenings is as follows.
1 - i'm in the shallows trying to launch.
2 - Mr Foreign windsurfer walks under my lines to launch himself.
3 - Kite falls out of the air and over his board.
4 - Mr foreigner has a hernia, acts like a dick.. throwing my lines around and threatening to cut my lines etc etc.
5 - I STRIP MY MOER!
OK.. so here is my story for real.
A couple months ago I went to haakgat and there was another windsurfer (foreign) and the waves was cooking.. LIGHT SE. and we were paddle surfing. THIS MORON took every wave for about 1 1/2 hours after which he went out.. we were out already due to frustration of this guy just jumping on every set wave. His response
SORRY, In my country we don't get waves like this!
Let me tell you something.. I DON'T GIVE A FUCK! in my country we don't have a lot of snow. You don't see me cutting every snowboarder's/ski'ers line up on the alps.
So this leads me to the following conclusion due to what happened last night
Please try and understand the frustration of not only KITE surfers but LOCALS in general.
You as foreign visitors are GUESTS in this country. You should for all practical reasons behave and be respectful to us locals, not saying that if we are rude and obnoxious towards you, you should just sit there and take it, but in general you should respect the local community as we LIVE here and pay tax in this country in which WE were born and belong to. That is a first rule.
Secondly.. this bullshit about SOME Windsurfers thinking they own the ocean.. That will stop right now. SPECIAL after my experience last night. This idiot has broken the name of every windsurfer out there and gives you guys a bad rep.
IF that is the type of people you want in your sport then so be it but I promise the following.
IF i get another windsurfer giving me a threat, SPECIALLY a foreign idiot with an attitude, kite, wind, surf, sup, drive, whatever, I will make your life miserable in MY country. Remember, we live here and know how shit works, YOU DON'T!
(Under normal circumstances the locals dont have problems with each other and we have a great time here for 8 months of the year.. This is the time between march and nov. Kinda strange ey?)
ANYWAY, I will make sure you have the most hardcore experience here and you will probably not return.. BUT we don't want your sort here anyway.
I'm normally a nice guy but i have honestly had it. We don't go to Hawaii and demand the waves at pipe. YOU WILL GET FUCKED UP!
So to everyone. HAVE RESPECT! in stead of loosing your COOL in the water.. BE nice.. Because you don't know who you are being rude to and you most certainly can and will get yourself into heaps of shit in SA..
Think about it.. Your bad attitude only screws up every other foreigner that comes here in the future because at some stage I and guarantee you the SA community will become hard core and keep you off our waters just like the other countries does due to disrespect.
I personally don't have a problem with anyone on the water.. be it a sup'er, kiter, longboarder, bodyboarder, windsurfer, surfer, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER.
Concerned.

Dude, this is generally a local windsurfers website. And if I had got caught in your lines, I would have done the same thing as the person in question. Unconcerned. L. |

I'm a windsurfer and a foreigner and a local of Cape Town and frankly people that make territorial claims give me a rash. And people that can't contain their little storm in a cup and have to threaten others on account of some imaginary common denominator upset me. regards, roald PS I'm going to take a kitesurf course because it sounds kind of fun |

Liz - you ignorant ass. The fact that you say that makes you just as ridiculous.. IF you are such a toss to actually go and stand precicely under my line due to you ignorance and you had to even pretend to cut my lines.. Let me show you what happens.. KITE LINES - R1k windsurf sail = a fuck lot more.. YOUR FACE = will probably look better after i'm finished with it Kite harnass = has blade and we always have blades to windsurfers remember = EVERY KITESURFER IS ARMED AND DANGEROUS! KITE LINES = decapitated windsurfers so dont fuck with us! POINT IS.. I didn't threaten anyway and I am not making territorial claims.. BUT.. When someone is ignorant and doesn't behave, it is my RIGHT as a citizen of my local country to make that claim as you have no respect for me and thus I dont have to have ANY for you. I was not the one in the wrong.. THE WINDSURFER WAS FURTHERMORE LIZ.. I'm not a fucking idiot.. I specifically searched for this windsurf site.. So i can post it on here. AS it has to do with windsurfing.. and YOU as a local SHOULD actually read the fucking thing again.. get a thesaurus to explain the big words i have used and realize that I'm talking about people in general that are taking the piss and has no respect for anyone else.. I just have 1st hand experience in this as this happened to me and i'm honestly not impressed.. so the war of the worlds will continue cause you dumbass windsurfers that are stuck on old technology can't get your heads out of your arse's and see what is wrong from right. have a nice day :) |

Gman, I probably am an ass, but what I actually meant was that I would have a hernia and freak out, because I would be pretty scared of being your lines! (I didn't for one second suggest I would cut them..that was Eugene). Still the fact that, as you mention, kiters carry a knife does suggest that the lines pose some danger. That's all I was referring to, as to be honest, kite lines do scare me as I am ignorant of how a kite works. I think the mentioned reaction, whilst perhaps excessive, would be driven by fear as much as anything else. As for all the foreigners that come in summer, I think we all find it rather tiresome, and there is always plenty idiots on all sorts of kit that spoil it for the rest. I think you're right to suggest to everyone "HAVE RESPECT! in stead of loosing your COOL in the water.. BE nice.." Maybe we can we try it off the water too? |

gman, seems to me you are a self-admitted guest on this forum -- maybe take some of your own advice regarding courtesy by guests towards locals -- if it is such a universal rule I'd say it applies in cyberspace as well.
My thought for the day is that xenophobia is as dangerous as the ethnocentrism it is a reaction to. Please no more threats of violence. |

Hey Gman,
what kind of a stupid name is that anyway....
Only for you the priority rules:
1. Surfing
2. Windsurfing
3. Bodyboarding, SUPing, Paddle Boat Riding and all this other stuff for guys who cant surf ;-))
4. Golf
5. Kiteboarding(not -surfing, because it aint nothing to do with surfing)
Hey, you should go to Hawaii and try your Sup on some of the spots there.... |

ok... You all missing the point and Liz I hear whatyou are saying, HOWEVER.. if you read what I said originally you will see that MY LINES pose no threat to anyone when my kite is in the water and i put no pressure on the bar.. The fact however is that the windsurfer in question was the one that first of all didn't wait for me.. and secondly went downwind of me. . which is as dumd as you get as You know very welll that I have the right of way when launching and you whould for all practical reasons be upwind of me if you are so petrified of my lines... WHICH I UNDERSTAND.. Furthermore. the KNIFE we carry is just so that when we are tangled with something out in the water and the kite is powered I can cut the line.. it is anyway more of a cross blade than anything.. ALL I was actually trying to say is that Threats to any person on the beach or in the water will result in violence and I wont take threats from anyone.. The fact of the matter is that there is NO hierachy. There is NO respect. and we as a whole suffer due to this perticular fact.. I know i'm a guest on this site as I dont windsurf. I specifically posted here to raise awareness of this particular issue in a vain hope that the windsurfing community will read this and relay this to they fellow windsurfers as this type of behaviour is unacceptable.. FOR LOCALS as well as FOREIGNERS, however I still do feel that it is much worse when a foreign guest of this country behaves in such a manner. That is it. BY the waay AFRICA TOM - MY first name starts with a G and I'm male.. Maybe this explains my ridiculous name for you better. I dont care about priority. I dont care about what type of water sport/ sport you try to do.. That has no bearing on respect. Respect is something you give to everyone and then you will receive it right back.. Threats will lead to action, violence and a general almost cold war between every user of what nature has given to us all equally, purely due to vanity and once again disrespect! |

How ironic, first you threaten (a female I might add), then you continue say your main problem was with being threatened? gman: >ALL I was actually trying to say is that Threats to any person on the beach or in the water will result in >violence and I wont take threats from anyone.. gman: >even pretend to cut my lines.. Let me show you what happens.. >YOUR FACE = will probably look better after i'm finished with it >EVERY KITESURFER IS ARMED AND DANGEROUS! >KITE LINES = decapitated windsurfers so dont fuck with us! I suggest you start by setting an examply ie. not threatening others in the first place. |

wow, i just read this and learnt a few things: a)Gman might have had a bit of a case, but did then did the online equivalent of walking into a blue bar in pretoria and shouting at the top of his voice that naas botha is gay, bakkies is a moffie and steve hofmeyr is a wanker. b)it is possible for one windsurfer to steal every single wave from a bunch of paddlesurfers over 90 minutes. even if it's light SE. c)it is ok to issue a general I WILL F#$^ the next foreigner UP warning on a site used mainly by local windsurfers. d) the local windsurf community are in general a 100% genuine bunch, with not one resorting to calling Gman a doos, when it was definitely warranted. I leave you with a few quotes from our man Gman(call it a highlights package - l just love irony!) *This idiot has broken the name of every windsurfer out there and gives you guys a bad rep. {all of us, including robbie naish??} *I'm not a fucking idiot {i disagree} *Liz - you ignorant ass {reread her original post, s l o w l y this time, and then look up 'ignoramus'} *I am relatively new to the kiting sport {but know more than foreign windsurfers about how it all works} *Remember, we live here and know how shit works, YOU DON'T! {like we threaten you online here} *get a thesaurus to explain the big words i have used and realize that I'm talking about people in general that are taking the piss and has no respect for anyone else {thesaurus is not a dikshinree} *ALL I was actually trying to say is that Threats to any person on the beach or in the water will result in violence and I wont take threats from anyone.. {this goes with your mantra of mutual respect, like how?} Steven Burnett(not scared to use my real name/resolve stuff on the beach) ps. Gman, be nice to Liz as she has shot almost ever singlewindsurfer out there(many more than once). You just threatened to rearrange her face; in my country you don't talk to a lady like that, and if you do, you apologise. |

NO... you all missing the point..
I said in my first post that the next threat will be dealt with in the same manner..
LIZ said she would have acted the same..also stated UNCONCERNED which was a total slap in the face after being curtious enough to actually search for your site and bring the issue up! Sshe threatened to cut my lines as well if the same thing happened to her.. WHICH means.. if she had to go downwind of me and put herself in a postition that is unsafe to her in her own eyes but has jack shit to do with me, she will in turn threaten me and cut my lines.. which WILL resort to violence.. being verbal or what ever as I didn't make the first threat..
I didn't do it.. I was stating a point and then I was actually attacked by your so wonderful community..
The point of the matter is however that due to this behaviour I am sick of it.. I don't mean JUST foreigners.. I dont mean anything to anyone in particular. I dont mean woman, man, kid, hermie.. I dont care.. Point is.
IF YOU WANNA COME ON THE BEACH ANS THROW THREATS AROUND, accept that you will throw it to the wrong person at some stage.. this will lead to a problem and that will all be caused by your stupidity. I prove the point very well here that threats can create issues.. JUST LIKE YOU SEE NOW.
You all attacking me for attacking you, but I was the one that was attacked first, by someone of YOUR sport choice that has been wrong since the start..
SO technically all the first replies including LIZ should say sorry to me as I was the one that came here and raised the issue with the concern of what is happening.. IN STEAD i was attacked. and therefore retaliated..
nNt pick if you want.. call names and name drop all the big names you want.. I couldn't care less.. Point is.. we all have to repect each other and That is kinda what I am trying to convey.. but thru distorted ways as I get more flack than the latter and I'm not going to back down if I get attacked when I know i was not in the wrong from the start! |

Hi Gman, paraphrased from your posts "Hi. I'm a Kite-surfer ..... I DON'T GIVE A FUCK! .......... I will make your life miserable in MY country....... YOU WILL GET FUCKED UP!....... HAVE RESPECT! ...... Your bad attitude......you ignorant ass......YOUR FACE will probably look better after i'm finished with it....... I didn't threaten anyway........... I'm not a fucking idiot......You all attacking me..... Concerned. G" As with everything in life people like to have a vent, have bad days, get frustrated and boil over. What measures you as a person is how you choose to react. I appreciate that you were super frustrated and bummed but I think I'm not alone in saying that: a) you have blown it way out of proportion - issues like this always happen in life, we're all human. b) the aggressive, angry and downright rude way you went about the raising the issue has successfully alienated yourself from everyone here and blown any credibility in the issue you may have had. I fully expect another ranting reply to this post - indulge me. |

Hey Gman I want to ask you something, why when you guys can sail just about anywhere , do you choose to sail at the two sopts( sunset & big bay) we can? I was at Big Bay the other day and the kite guys were all over the place! One guy jumped right over me , so I went and dropped R1000 on a helmet! I cant tell when you guys are turning or where you are going to land and half the time it looks like most of you have no control at all. I do agree that a few of the Euros act like they own the whole beach but most are really cool .This shit happens with locals just as much. Last time I went for a surf at long beach some 12 year old was telling me my fortune. Chill out a little we are all there to have fun and if being arround windsurfers makes you uptight sail at one of the many beaches we dont use. |

Ballistic
THANK GOD! someone that actually read and understand what i'm trying to say.
OK here is the story.
I kite from sunset as I work here, I dont have a car. So i just do a downwind. I have to launch in sunset and I go out at doodles and that is my transport home.. OR i can sit and wait until 6:30 every day to wait for my wife to pick me up.. I hope this explains why I kite here.
Now.. just as you explain what happened to you with the kiter launching over your head.. (idiot and I would also be upset and actually ask the guy afterwards what he is thinking as he is putting my life in danger) same thing is what happened to me at haakgat with that single windsurfer guy.. He missed my head by centimeters cutting into the waves etc.
I honestly would rather kite or surf a shit place alone before having to hack throught 300 people, but this is not the case cause you can go anywhere.. big bay.. kamers haakgat, sunset beach.. where ever.. there are so many idiots..
I just would like to know how do YOU (this is everyone) handle someone that actually does treat you the way that euro guy treated me..
If he throws threats to you on the beach and you have done nothing wrong.. what would you do? I guess that is how i should have started the Thread in hindsight, but it got out of control so fast as LIZ kinda replied but I dont think she knew that she was threatning me in her reply 100% the same as the guy on the beach, just like I didn't know she was a chick, nor highly acclaimed, but that doesn't matter as that makes her no more of a person than anyone else. (no offence directed at you LIZ and whom ever want's to stand up for her now after I said this that may irritate or piss on someone's beliefs)

love this thread, it is actually very entertaining gman Lets face it matter of fact is you made a fool of yourself with not only what you posted but especially HOW you did it. You are talking about respect, but you don't show it. You should actually print this and store it in a little box to be able to read it in a few years time to remind you what kind of asshole behavior you showed us here. So relax in your slax and enjoy the 99% of the good time you have on the water and not blowing up the 1% kak. |

Awesome...
I like Roalds reply. Sounds like group therapy. Ok - I am next:
/standing up/
I'm a windsurfer and a foreigner and a local of Cape Town too...
/sitting down/
@gman:
If you can't handle your stuff - don't go kitesurfing at all. You are endangering other people. Even worse is that you are threatening to use your equipment as a weapon - that's way out of line...
Fortunately there are a lot of constructive replies on your post and what needed to be said is there. I hope you got something out of it and find a way for yourself to relax and enjoy the sport again.
@LIZ:
The big 3 in front but still going wild??? Love it...

LIZ you got it 100% on the ball.. My first post was done for effect.. I got what I wanted.. This thread has more hitpoints in short time that I think this whole site has had.. EVERYONE will carry on raping me which is cool, cause sometimes i'm shit bored. The fact that NONE of you can read kinda helped the whole fact. haha.. Furthermore the PARAPHRASING was a 100% julius malema type thing to do.. hahaha.. BRILLIANT.. cause it took all the relevant parts out and just left the effect.. I know what happened and I know that I was in no way wrong.. did nothing wrong in my approach.. When I say I'm new to the sport.. I mean 3 years.. NOT 10 like the guy's that started kiting from the start.. BUT ey.. more effect.. Thanks for all the participation.. at the end of the day.. The fact remains.. IF i was a windsurfer and I was complaining about some kiter that came onto the beach and threatened me you all would have gone balls to the wall and said the fucking kiter shoudl get bashed.. (JUST LIKE THAT OTHER POST WHERE SOMEONE THAT WAS VOICING SUCH A "STRONG" opinion and said that any kitre that wears extra long shorts over his suit should get a bashing.) Well.. the point is.. that you are all biased and this euro that was in the wrong is not in the wrong purely due to him being a windsurfer.. IF i had to put this on a PRO-kiting site (pro as in positive towards kiting and not professional for some of you that might want to paraphrase or dont have a dichnereeeee) Anyway.. Thanks for all your input.. The knife that we all are harmed with is not a knife, but purely a blade for cutting your line if you find yourself in trouble.. The lines can't possibly decapitate you as you all have these 3m long masts so unsless you are a fucking avatar you wont really have your head sticking out if you happen to get into the way of a kite.. OBVIOUSLY if someone on the beach threatens you in your face and cuts your lines.. OR alternatively cut your sail due to this person loosing his marbels, he should be dealt with.. ie: your face will look better after i'm finished with it.. THIS wont happen just cause you standing on the beach looking pretty.. but if you misbehave ANYWHERE in ANY country for what ever reason, you can bet your bottom dollar that you will get your face rearranged.. So at the end of the day.. this was very interesting and it proved somethign very useful to me.. and I honestly dont feel like a tit or like i ave done anything wrong.. AS THIS IN ONLINE and not the real world. L8R all |

Hooray! I did something right! (made you laugh, didn't it?!) Gman, perhaps if you carefully read the posts again, you actually haven't copped flack for being a kitesurfer. You've copped it for being a wanker. But if you're really want to get scientific with this delusion, try taking up windsurfing. I bet you'll still be an idiot. But at least you might find it a little easier to get home from work in the North Westerlies. Cheers. |

well done gman. the moral high ground is clearly yours. clever dick, can't believe you had us fooled the whole time. you are without a doubt as brilliant as julius. as you realise that this is ONLINE and not the real world, you'll know that trolls are the most highly respected of web citizens. can we have our site back now? no really, it was better before you were here. shot! what, you're still here? i don't care about hit counts. we're after quality, not quantity. go fly a kite or something, we have an olympic sport to discuss here. |

Brilliant. anything I say will be chopped.. doens't matter if I say sorry.. or i say fuck you.. what ever.. I suppose I will go fly a kite or something.. Yah.. much better.. and way better people to deal with.. normally less attitude than with the godlike creatures of windsurfing. I can't wait for the next bit of replies.. I find that the first site I go to in the mornings is this one.. hehe... I wasn't fooling anyone.. I was merely stating the obvious.. You all deceided to take the text and make it what you want it to be.. I couldn't care less. BEST of it all is.. YOU ARE ALL STILL REPLYING. hahahahhhahahha.. AWESOME! |

Great news everybody!
The south-easter is back, so with any luck Gman will actually make it back home tonight (for the first time this week)! With a bit more luck, he'll be bustin' some rad G-handle passes and loop-G-loops on the way... In the process letting off some steam on the water, as opposed to on this site...
Just spread the love, Gman, I'll see you on your way home ;)... Wonder how YOU will welcome the world to Mzansi? But that's another thread, I guess. |
