South African Speed League RULES

Duration

The SA speed league will run from the 1 May to the 30th April annually

Region

The league is limited to anywhere within South African borders

Administration

The official timekeeper is Hennie Bredenkamp.
The official administrator is
Jules Field.   

Submissions

  • All tracks must be submitted league official within 2 weeks of session
  • Each track session can only contribute to one category (not reversible). 
  • When submitting a new track you must nominate which category you are entering. ie 250m Mens Windsurfing 
  • All tracks in the top 5 of every ranking will be available from the official timekeeper.
  • Only one session per day is allowed for submission.

GPS Track

A GPS track needs to be available for verification by the Time Keeper (TK) at all times.

GPS units which are allowed

  • Garmin 101 / 201 / 205 / 305
  • Locosys GT-11

Track format

A track must be delivered to the TK in the following format:
YYYYMMDD <Sailors name > <location>

  • #.gpx

For analysis of a track the following software is allowed:

The following software (for Windows) is allowed to download data from the GPS or convert tracks to another format:

GPS Track Setup

Track setup in GPS must be at 1 or 2 second interval.

Run

A run is when you sail in one direction and per run you can score one speed.
A new run begins after a turn (gybe or tack) or when you have stopped (crash?).
The only exceptions are the Nautical Mile and one Hour speeds, where turns are allowed.

Speed categories

Windsurfing

  • 10 sec run - Average of 5 fastest 10 sec runs
  • 100m - Software calculated best single run over 100 meters
  • 250m - Software calculated best single run over 250 meters
  • 1hr average - Software calculated average speed for 1 hour
  • Max 1/2 second software reading ( Not official )
Kite
  • 10 sec run - Average of 5 fastest 10 sec runs
  • 100m - Software calculated average speed over 100 meters
  • 250m - Software calculated average speed over 250 meters
  • 500m - Software calculated average speed over 500 meters
  • Max 1/2 second software reading ( Not official )

Age and gender categories

  • Men's open
  • Youths up to 18 yrs
  • Ladies
