Ja boyz - it was cooking at our local puddle (aka Dronkies) this past weekend. Check out the pics on Photo Gallery, Sessions, "Bronks 30 and 31 August 2008".
Guru predicted 22 knots Saturday and Sunday but it rocked through at 25 to 30 on Saturday and 30 to 35 on Sunday (with the odd 40 knot gust). Not often one gets to sail overpowered on 5 sq.m sails and 80 liter boards on Gauteng waters. Solid turnout on both days by the local sailors (some we haven't seen in years - Jarrod, Etienne) and some recently out of winter hibernation (Glynn and Peter). Ta very much to the sacrificail sailors (Pieter - family do at sun city and Jeremy - some family do in the bushes) as, without your support, it would most probably only have blown 15 knots. Conditions were so good in fact that Gerhard and Selwyn made an appearance - they only normally sail in hard core wave conditions in CT - Bronks has never before seen so much big air. Some memorable comments :
DaBeastMan - "is this what 20 knots looks like !" prior to departing for the local Buddhist temple
Donovan - "I'll never sail on my 8 sq.m again" - bru, don't forget the past - at least sailing on an 8sq.m gets you on the water instead of watching some dodgy second rate rugby match
Gerhard - "Bliksem, it's easier gybing at Big Bay than here".
Kudos to okes like Johan who gave it a good go. That's how you learn. Respect to Gary and Glynn for going out in some hectic conditions on 130 liter boards and 6 sq.m sails - couldn't have been to lekker. Julian once again proves that size does not matter by pulling off a clear air chop hop with Kona in 30 knots.
