Hi , planning on crossing False Bay end of the year / early next year , anyone keen to join me?

I have arranged two ducks for support , so if we end up with no wind they can pick us up befoer we get eaten.....

I know a lot of the southern suburbs windsurfers have always talked about it. So give them time to think about it, arrange a date (probably remind everyone again closer to the time) and I'm sure you'll get a couple of boarders joining you.

I AM IN, pick a date...

Longboard if it is sub 20knots (KONA)
Short Board if it is over

whatever...

I am so there! Epic. Count me in please.

What about a race from Froggie Pond round Shark Island and then to Sunrise Beach?

BTW, who is Forward Loop and who is Ballistic?

Cheers,

Mark

Awsome ! Glad I am not the only one dumb enough to do this!

Will make some noise when the wind arrives. I hear there is a wind hole in the middle of the bay so bigger is better!

Could this be the start of another possible informal event to add to the calender?

I`ll try anything at least once - I assume it will require NO GYBING, so my chances of being sharkbait are lower.

Informal is is the key word , happy to arrange the ducks etc. might ask for some donations for gas money for the boats but if you get eaten , don't want wives , gilfriends or mothers on my case!

I'm very keen, but would not like to be paddling around for too long before being rescued if say the wind had to drop.

My brother reckons that Michael Cousins did it a few years ago. From somewhere near Pringle Bay to somewhere around Cape Point. I think he holds the record for the crossing. But he had a support boat with rigged sails and another board for the changing conditions.

Anyone know more details of crossing times etc.

This could be a great event, but rescue support would be difficult to arrange.

Zorro, I've been looking for a hero like you for a long time man!

No-one up for a round Shark Island cruise?

Ballistic I'm up for contibuting load s of petrol money, etc. I would think Rooi-els would be the place to start from? Reaching from Rooiels would typically take you Cape Point, so maybe Buffels Bay area in the reserve could be a good ending point? This is 32.9km

Cape Point is due West of Pringle Bay, so it would be a good place to start if going around the point (about 37km to Platboom).

Otherwise starting at Strand in a SSE one could reach to Simon's Town (35km), or go slightly off a reach past Shark Island to Fishoek (36km).

Here's False Bay map on Google maps...

I have spoken to the guy who takes the pics of the great whites , in summer they leave the island and cruise around the bay behind the waves. When they increase the size of he decoys over five feet there is a dramatic drop in success(strikes). Also we will be going too fast at 20 plus knots. He said i could give him a call to find where they are when we are getting close. Anyway he says we would be VERY lucky to have an encounter!!!!!!!!

and he hasn't ever done a forward loop either!

The dinghy guys used to do a yearly false bay crossing from simontown to gordons bay. think it got stopped because of safety concerns. but tomorrow they are doing simonstown to muizies and back, so the authorities must have eased off.

in a strong SE the ride from fishoek to strand GB should work, could even have the island as a mark.
