Hi, i am a Uk sailor coming to Cape Town in Jan. Does anyone know where best to buy second hand board and where best to stay?
I am a learner wave sailor sailing waves up to 4-5ft currently and i need a board and somewhere to base myself for a couple of months (maybe a little longer...)
Can you stay at sunset beach, without a car where is best to stay? Or are there any other dudes who want to share accomodation for a few months sailing? surfing.....

I can recommend talking to Paul Wagstaff at Bay Sports about your kit, good selection of used gear - www.baysport.co.za then I'd say for accommodation check out www.blaauwberg.net

Hi Marcus
Firstly, you will find quite a lot of second hand kit advertised on this site, and you can also check Bay Sports (mentioned above) for boards, sails etc at various prices.
You could stay at Sunset Beach without a car, but you would be very restricted: Cape Town, especially the Table View/Sunset Beach/Big Bay area is spread out and you really need a car even just to go to the shops. Also, Sunset Beach in the middle of the season can get very windy from midday, and then people normally move up to Big Bay (a great beginner wave sailing spot) or Melkbos. So I would suggest getting a car if you want maximum time on the water. It is quite expensive to stay around Sunset beach, so you might be better to stay in Table View for cheaper and hire a car. There are lots of cheap hire car places, Best Beetle, Car Mania etc, so you should find something easily enough. |
