great to hear you got one now you can get on the speed league
your friend is right in some respect but only the charger will give you problems if you plug it in here it will blow and then it will cost you about r150 for a new one most people dont realise this as if you have problems like this you have no warranty and the difference in cost for the unit is taken up by the charger price  you will have to buy
hope this helps

The US of A uses 120 Volt, 60 Hz... We use 220 Volt, 50 Hz. Not a problem, just use a voltage converter. Simple

The first thing you must do is get a pouch for the GPS. Aquapack make a realy nice one. If the GPS gets full of water etc.. you will have problems getting it replaced. I sent one to a mate in Mauritius. He has trashed it twice and we have to get it back to SA to get it replaced.

Hi Donovan The foretrex 201 is the wrist mount one so don't worry about getting a pouch for it as it is waterproof. I got mine from Canada which also uses 110V AC for the charger. The charging current is 5V DC (400mA) so any adjustable AC adapter will do, they should cost you less than R60 at any hardware store. The one I have is rated at 500mA but doesn't have a setting for 5V DC so I just set it at 4.5V DC and it charges perfectly.

Get a pouch. The Fortrex 201 is waterproof up to 3m for 2 min or something like that.
What the GPS does not like are the crashes. The water is blasted into the GPS via the buttons. Also the pins on the strap are not that strong, it may get ripped off your arm.
